Mike Gillett practices law in Seattle, Washington,
primarily in the fields of real estate law, land use
law, natural resource law and environmental law. In
2005, he opened The Gillett Law Firm specifically to
focus on his clients’ needs in these areas.
In 1977, Mike received his undergraduate degree from
the University of California Irvine, where he graduated
cum laude and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa
honor society. In 1980, he received his law degree from
Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco.
In October 1980, Mike was admitted to the Washington
State Bar Association. At the time, he was with a small
Seattle land use and environmental law firm. In 1985,
Mike was brought onto the legislative staff of
Washington Congressman Al Swift. He served in this
capacity for four years, and was instrumental in
drafting and passing major amendments to several
environmental and energy laws of significance to the
Pacific Northwest, including the federal Superfund law,
the Clean Air Act and the Federal Power Act. In 1989,
Mike returned to Seattle, where he began his solo
practice, continuing his emphasis on real estate, land
use, natural resource and environmental law. In 2000,
Mike associated with a small Seattle environmental law
firm in order to lead the defense of a multi-million
dollar environmental contamination case in both federal
and state courts. Mike returned to his solo practice in
2005, establishing The Gillett Law Firm.
Mike lives in Seattle with his wife and two teenage
daughters. He enjoys cooking good food for friends and
family.
